A
flipped classroom is where the students spend time during the class period
going over their homework and asking questions. The students are expected to go
home each day and learn the material on their own. Then the class period is
spent closing the gaps and filling in any information that was not clear or
grasped. This concept is not widely used in schools across America but is being
seen more and more than ever before. Some students like this idea because they
may find this easier than doing the homework on their own after the lesson is
taught in class. There are many mixed emotions from students, parents, and
teachers, so when choosing a school, be aware of how the class is structured. Here is a website to learn more on the flipped classroom.
Open,
when referring to the classroom regards to what is legal for others to use. If it
is “open” then that resource may be used. I looked up “open educational
resources” to find out more information.
It explains that open educational resources provide teachers with
content they can use in their own classroom. If the material is considered “open”,
then the teacher does not have to worry about any copyright issues. Open
content is, “created
by somebody who has attached an open license to it.” This means that the
teacher wanting to use the open content does not have to ask permission of the
creator beforehand. The idea of open content is that it is meant to be taken
and built upon, making it better and better as it goes through each person. Here is a website discussing more on open educational resources.
In
the PowerPoint assignments I learned how to hyperlink and make a nonlinear
presentation. The first PowerPoint I learned how to insert an audio over the presentation
and time each slide to my voice. The final PowerPoint was very time consuming,
but I loved how it turned out. I made a quiz about all different kinds of
flowers. I learned how to make the slide show so that the student would have to
click the correct answer before moving on to the next question. Both of these presentations were time
consuming, but I learned a lot and I will definitely be using these skills as a
teacher one day.
