Blog #5
Web 2.0 allows people including
students and teachers to be able to interact with one another on things like:
Twitter, a blog, Wikis, or Diigo. In a classroom, I think that using a blog and
Twitter are the most beneficial. On a blog, students can be creative and design
their own page, and there is no word limit on how much they can write so
students can go into great detail. Although Twitter has a word limit, it is
still useful for short comments, questions, and concerns regarding the class.
Both of these sites allow students to follow one another so they can keep up
with what is being talked about in class.
In my future classroom a Web 2.0
tool that I will use frequently is YouTube. This way, as a teacher I can find
educational videos to help students grasp difficult concepts. As a student,
seeing visuals along with someone explaining the topic at the same time was
very beneficial. There is a video on just about everything on YouTube so
finding one would not be an issue. The only problem would be the advertisements
that appear before and during the video so being aware is necessary when
showing an educational video. Click here to
go to YouTube.
A technology advancement I believe
holds the biggest promise for education would be Diigo. With Diigo, students
are able to find reliable educational resources and post notes directly on the
article. Students can communicate having discussions, questions, or debates about
a certain topic. Students can also communicate with the teacher through Diigo.
Using this website teachers can assign the students to read a particular
article, and post a comment, question, or concern on the article to get everyone
involved and given a chance to voice their opinion.
I love the idea of using Youtube in the classroom. I think that sometimes kids react best when they are fully engaged in an activity and watching a video may do that for some kids. I also liked what you said about Digo and how it can and will be used in the future.
